Without Richardson The Jets Run Game Won't Be So Rich Anymore

OAKLAND, CA - OCTOBER 25: Thomas Jones #20 of the New York Jets celebrates with teammate Tony Richardson #49 after rushing for a touchdown in the first half against the Oakland Raiders during an NFL game at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on October 25, 2009 in Oakland, California. See that man in the picture to the right? No not Jones, the other guy, the one celebrating with Jones. Many Jets fans don't know who #49 is of the New York Jets, but in fact he is one of the most important players on that offense. Well that man is Tony Richardson FB for the New York Jets and a damn good one too.

There is a problem though his contract has ended and he is a UFA. (unrestricted free agent) With all the buzz about LT, and Jones being released, and the addition of Cromartie, and the loss of Rhodes, Richardson has not gotten any attention and I don't think many people know how important he is to our offense, and how much of a negative effect it would have on our run game if we lost Richardson to another team.

Richardson is arguably the best blocking FB in the league and acts as our 6th offensive lineman. He is important for opening up holes and blocking off those Linebackers or Safeties coming at the RB. He is a huge reason we had the #1 rush offense last year and without him I don't see the Jets being #1 again this year.

A lot of people are upset about the loss of Jones, don't be, be upset if we lose Richardson, because he was a big reason why Jones was so successful. When Richardson came to the team two years ago along with Faneca our run game became the elite run game it is now, and hopefully we can keep it that way.

I know that if Richardson signs somewhere else we could have a chance to get Sharper, but Richardson is more important to this team than Sharper would be. We know Richardson performes well in our offensive scheme, and even though Sharper says he would, it is still uncertain that Sharper would perform well in our defensive scheme.

We already resigned Hartsock who is also an important part of our running game that tends to go un-noticed, now we need to get Richardson back.

Getting LT to replace Jones is important but not as important as keeping Richardson.

Please Tannenbum do anything you can to keep Tony Richardson in Green & White next season, because chances our that in the picture above Richardson opened up a hole for Jones to score that TD; and he will do the same thing next season for Greene.

*Update: LT signs with the Jets, all that is left to do is resign Richardson.
