BloodyElbow.com reported this story from Zuffa credentialed Fighters Only.
On April 17th, the UFC is planning to go head-to-head with Strikeforce, by putting together a last minute card in hopes to get more views than the Strikeforce card.
A lot of rumored fights have been flying around, one of which being Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin.
"Chuck Liddell will be fighting Rich Franklin in his next bout and not rival TUF 11 coach Tito Ortiz, Fighters Only has heard from a reliable source."
This comes from Fighters Only, and seems that the rumor has evolved into something more.
Also stated by Zuffa's Fighters Only:
"However, the rumour hit message boards late last night and an industry source confirmed that Liddell will indeed be facing former middleweight champion Rich Franklin. The fight is to headline an April 17th Fight Night event which will counter Strikeforce's show on the same date."
It sounds like this match has been inked, and it makes for a very interesting scenario.
The Ultimate Fighter season 11, which is coached by Chuck and Tito Ortiz premiers on March 31, so why is Chuck going to fight Franklin?
TUF coaches contracts state that the coaches must fight after the finale of the reality show.
There are reports from Fighters Only that Tito Ortiz won't be fighting Chuck Liddell, but not for health reasons. Could this be a repeat of Rampage's drama?
Nonetheless, this is a very interesting situation. "The Iceman" vs. "Ace," should be a good fight, and has the potential to outshine the Strikeforce event.
If this is the first fight scheduled for this card, I can't wait to see what Dana White puts together for the rest of it.
