This year, Selection Sunday will take place at 6PM EST on Sunday, March 14, 2010. CBS has the official rights for the tournament and thus to make the first announcement of the selections for the 65 men’s NCAA Division I teams. Then, ESPN will follow up seconds later with the same announcements.

Of course, both networks then offer their own opinions of the tournaments selections.

We have created empty brackets for the selection if you wish to write it in yourself. However, the locations, dates, and times are all subject to change from what we have input thus far because of how the match-ups are created. It is probably easiest to just return to after the announcements for a full printable bracket.

The official NCAA Procedures for establishing the bracket offer full information on how the bracket is created. However, for the most inside explanation I have seen thus far on how the selection committee works, I suggest reading the 2005 article from called “Inside ‘the bunker’ “.

The National Invitation Tournament selections take place later in the evening on ESPN. The process is slated to start at 9PM EST.

The Women’s selection event is covered by ESPN. The announcement used to come out an hour prior to the men’s selections. However, in order to give the Women’s selection process full coverage, ESPN moved the announcements to Monday in 2006.

Thus, what ESPN has dubbed Selection Monday begins at 5PM on Monday, March 15th, 2010 (time unconfirmed). Brackets for all of the rest of these tournaments can be found on our NCAA Brackets page .

Division II and III

The Division II men’s selections are finalized and announced at 9pm on Sunday, March 7th, 2010. Games begin that Friday, March 12th.

The Division III men’s tournament games begin March 5th, but I have been unable to find out when the matchups are announced.

The Women’s Division II tournament starts on Friday, March 12th and the Women’s Division II tournament starts on Friday, March 5th. Both mirror the Men’s schedule, so I am assuming the matchup announcements do as well, although I cannot find information confirming those times.
