Mini-Mock Munch (25 mocks): Is there a NFL Combine effect?

Mark ButerbaughMar 1, 2010

The NFL Mock Draft Database saw 44 mocks updated this morning. To check and see if there were any trend changes because of NFL Combine weekend, we did a Mini-Mock munch with the 25 mocks that were updated between 2/28 and 3-1.

The mini-mock munch will give you a glimpse of the much bigger, weekly Mock Munch coming later in the week. We provide here the results, not the percentages, and we include every projection in the Top 9 for each Top 9 pick. Are we noticing changes that could be possible repercussions from the NFL Combine? Yes, somewhat. Doesn't mean that trend will continue though. Below are the results for the Top 9 pick with any appropriate comments.

1st Pick: ST. LOUIS RAMS . . .

QB Sam Bradford (11 mocks), DT Ndamukon Suh (10 Mocks), QB Jimmy Clausen (3 mocks), S Eric berry (1 mock), DT Gerlad McCoy (1 mock)

Trend? Definitely. Bradford's weigh in combined with various reports from ESPN are causing a big shift from Suh to Bradford. Suh has been the Consensus pick (at least 60% of munched mocks) for a few weeks. No more, at least for now. In the past two days, Bradford has actually taken the lead.

2nd Pick: DETROIT LIONS

DT Ndamukong Suh (14 mocks), DT Gerald McCoy (7 mocks), OT Russell Okung (3 mocks), S Eric Berry (1 mock)

Trend? Absolutely. The consensus leader here for week has been Gerald McCoy. Most mocks were projecting Suh and McCoy going back to back at the top. However, the more mocks that project Bradford to go first overall, move Suh to second overall, sliding McCoy out of 2nd overall. Will that trend continue? We will see. There is a pretty intense debate over which of the two top DTs is the best. Surprisingly though, as the blogs and media argue the better of the two, there has been little effect in mock projections as Suh remains ahead of McCoy in over 90% of mocks.

3rd Pick: TAMPA BAY BUCS

DT Gerald McCoy (15 mocks), S Eric Berry (4 mocks), OT Russell Okung (2 mocks), CB Joe Haden (2 mocks), DT Ndamukong Suh (1 mock), DE Jason-Pierre Paul (1 mock)

Trend? Absolutely. With No. 1 and No. 2 getting shook up, so goes No. 3. Berry was the top choice of 48% in our latest HUGE weekly mock munch. In these 25 updated mocks, Berry only garners 4 mocks now as McCoy falls from 2nd overall to 3rd overall.
