As I sit here and watch this ridiculous angle between Hulk Hogan, Abyss, Flair, and AJ unfold, I can't help but feel that this angle is just not being done correctly.
I have always been a fan of Abyss. I am really glad that they are moving him away from Dr. Stevie and this whiny, psycho character and back into a true monster. I understood the natural pairing of Abyss and Mick Foley.
The Abyss character reminds me of a mix between Mankind and Kane.
Abyss is a tormented soul who has a past that nobody is quite sure of like Kane. He puts his body on the line in ways that can only be compared to Mankind. The natural chemistry between Abyss and Foley has just flowed since day one because of his character traits.
The sympathy factor works with Foley and Abyss because Foley is one of the most sympathetic wrestlers in history and he knows what it is like to be an outcast like Abyss is.
I just don't understand why Hulk Hogan has sympathy for Abyss.
Abyss looks like one of the many monsters that Hulk has toppled in his career. Hulk pretty much put over the WWE Hall of Fame as one of the most meaningful things he has ever accomplished. Why continue to put over the competition? And to top that off, the last thing anyone wants to see is another in-ring battle between Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. It wasn't good 10 years ago...why would it be good today?
But I digress...
I think if you take Mick Foley out of the equation, Sting would be the perfect guy to team with Abyss in this angle.
It has been 9 years since Sting and Flair have been in the same ring together in any capacity. These two guys kept WCW going with their blood, sweat, and tears during the roughest of times.
Sting should have been the guy to come to the aide of Abyss when Bischoff was trying to unmask him. After watching Sting wrestle AJ Styles back at "Bound for Glory", it is obvious that Sting still has something left in the tank.
And please don't get me wrong. I am one of the biggest Hulkamaniacs of all time. This storyline just doesn't make much sense to me.
With TNA trying their best to shift some momentum in their favor, they need every big name star that they can get. It makes me wonder why Sting hasn't been on Impact since that January 4th show when he was simply in the rafters watching.
Is there heat between Hogan and Sting? What about Sting and Bischoff? Only time will tell...
Eric Bischoff, The Hulkster, and Vince Russo need to pull out all the stops creatively on March 8th. They need to reach out to Sting and bring him onto this show in a meaningful way.
They will get people to change the channel if there is knowledge of an in-ring showdown between Flair and Sting.
Impact has been a train wreck lately. One "Icon" of wrestling might be able to change the overall chemistry of this show.
That "Icon" is Sting.
Do you think TNA should go through the trouble of bringing back Sting? Let your voice be heard and let me know how you feel!
