Once upon a time, not long ago...
There was a little team that couldn't defend the throw...
Ball stealin' and sack dealin' linebacking core...
But damnit Ike! WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DROP THAT BALL FOR?
Just once this year did the corners get a pick...
The Steelers just signed Dunta Robinson...
Psht. I WISH!
Today, I will be going over a fantasy free agency/off season for the Steelers. Mind you, this is purely fantasy. Something I created in my own little world. If any of these things were to actually happen... well, I'd be really excited, and I'd giggle to myself and quietly believe the Steelers top dogs listen to me. So, here goes.
FANTASY WISH NUMERO UNO -
- Sign Dunta Robinson, CB
As we all know, Dunta is a legitimate shutdown corner in the NFL, and his presence in the Steelers secondary would be immediately felt. I used to think Ike Taylor was one of the best in the league, but it seems Mr. Swaggin' has lost a step, and should no longer be the number one man in the Steelers secondary. Not to mention, Dunta's 13 career INTs to Ike's 9 - while being in the league for a year less than Ike.
FANTASY WISH NUMBER TWO -
- Sign Kevin Mawea, C
Kevin is, without a doubt, old. But he is also, without a doubt, one of the most dominating centers in the league. Let's face it, Justin Hartwig is bad. Really bad. Pretty much anyone would be an upgrade at this position. I'm not even going to get into because it makes me so angry. Point is, UPGRADE.
FANTASY WISH NUMBER THREE -
- DRAFT AN ELITE RIGHT GUARD
Trai Essex is bad. Really bad. 'Nuff said.
FANTASY WISH NUMBER FOUR -
- Draft Taylor Mays, FS, USC
With Ryan Clark's future with the Steelers still uncertain, this one seems like a no brainer. Even if the Steelers do keep Clark, there is still no depth at the safety position. Tyrone Carter doesn't cut it anymore as a backup.
And finally, FANTASY WISH NUMBER FIVE -
- Draft Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise St
If we can't get an elite corner from free agency, get one from the draft. Wilson is a beast and would be a perfect second/third round pick, assuming he's still available. William Gay is horrible. Deshea may not be with us, causing depth issues in the corner department. I know, I know. We just drafted Keenan Lewis and that other fella. Well. If they were worth anything, don't you think they would have been given a shot last year? Now, I'm not calling bust... yet. But if they showed even a smidgen of potential, I'm sure Coach Tomlin would have subed them in for Gay.
Completely unrealistic things I'd like to see:
- Bring in Julius Peppers
- Make a trade with the Panthers for their entire offensive line
- Devin Hester?
- Sign me as Special Teams coach
- Ban Jeff Reed from kickoffs
