Robert Rees@therobertreesContributor IIFebruary 19, 2010

We had Annette Huygens-Tholen, an Australian Olympian who played beach volleyball in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, with us on the show.

She called in via Skype as she was in Australia! Below are just a sample of the topics discussed during this enlightening show:

First of all she corrected Rees because he said she was an EX-Olympian where once an Olympian, always an Olympian.

She explained what it’s like to be in the Olympics.

We talked about how she was calling from Australia and how she felt they could beat anybody.

We talked about her current ties to the Olympics and what it’s like to be on a team.

Annette talked about how her preparation for sports helped her approach her professional career post sports.

She told us what it was like to play have the Olympics in her home country and play in them at the same time.

She told us how her volleyball career continued for many years after the Olympics and how it took her a long time to let go of the sport.

We then talked to her about what got her passionate after sports which is helping athletes transition from being an athlete to much more. She has written a book and speaks at engagements. Learn more here or here.

Foss asked her how athletes can deal with a short end to a career due to a career or other circumstances.

We came back to the current Olympics and got her opinion of which Australians we should keep our eye on in Vancouver.

She told us about her upcoming visit to the States for a seminar and her past visits to Texas (where The Sports Piece is based out of).

We’d like to thank Annette for coming on the show with us and wish her well in encouraging and inspiring others to greater things!
