Doghouse Boxing's 2010 All-Star Team

Brandon EstrictFeb 18, 2010

Inspired by this past weekendโ€™s NBA All-Star game in Arlington, Texas, we here at Doghouse Boxing have compiled our 2nd annual list of Boxings top talent!

Coincidentally, the very same state-of-the-art, brand spanking new venue, Cowboys Stadium that hosted that event (which just set a new mark in the Guinness Book of World Records for paid attendance for a basketball game, checking in at well over 108,000 fans) will delve into the boxing world next month, playing host to Manny Pacquiao taking on Joshua Clottey in a promotion dubbed simply...The Event.

If you arenโ€™t familiar with our criteria, I will choose the top two fighters of 2010, per weight-class, from Super Flyweight all the way up to the Heavyweight Division. There still, to my knowledge, is no offseason in the hurt business so the eligible time period for consideration of fightersโ€™ accomplishments will extend from February 2009 through February 2010.

This year, weโ€™ve added one alternative replacement to every weight division. Narrowing the top two fighters in most weight classes was proven extremely difficult and highly debatable last year, so adding one more slot will rightfully give credit to a third fighter whoโ€™s had a hell of a year but may have been overshadowed by the champions ahead of him.

Just look at what the alternative option has done for the NBA. PF David Lee of the New York Knicks was the highest profile snub of basketballโ€™s 2010 All-Star game, but with PG Allen Iverson (starter for the East squad) tending to family matters, Lee made the prestigious team as a first replacement.

Please take into account the All-Star selections made are NOT a Pound-for-Pound list, but an All-Star team of fighters who have accomplished the most on the highest level of the sport in the last 365 days.

DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions expressed are those, solely, of Doghouse Boxing writer/contributor Brandon Estrict, and not necessarily of Doghouse Boxing as a whole.

There are many great fighters whoโ€™ve accomplished enough over the past year to warrant a selection but were not included on our list. This should not be taken as any slight or form of disrespect to the unmentioned as itโ€™s never an easy list to come up with on a year-to-year, or even on a month-to-month basis.

Things change in our sport everyday and nothingโ€™s ever cast in stone. This entire list can potentially be turned upside down within the next six months or six weeks.

As it stands, congratulations to the DoghouseBoxing.com 2010 Boxing All-Starโ€™s, but remember that this is boxing and the grind never stops.
