As a life-long Knicks fan, I feel both excited and worried about the Knicks free agent chase in the summer of 2010. The Knicks accomplished what they wanted and needed to do today in dumping alot of salary in the moves made before today's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
The hope in N.Y. is that Lebron James is wearing a Knicks Jersey next season and can finally bring exciting playoff basketball to the Garden. But what if Lebron doesn't come to Manhattan?Do the Knicks have a plan B beyond Lebron and D-Wade?What if Lebron is a Knick but doesn't have enough talent around him to be more than just a contender?
Patrick Ewing was supposed to be the savior in N.Y.. He was supposed to be the guy that gave the Knicks multiple championships. Instead he didn't even get us one.
Lebron James as great as he is needs role players around him to win a title.Role players that he has in Cleveland, especially now that they have traded for Antawn Jamison.Nobody knows what Lebron is thinking. Does he already Know where he is going to be playing come next season? Is it all about winning for him or is it about the money and absolute God-like stature he will have in New York if he signs with the Knicks?
As a Knicks fan all i can do is hope that he is wearing a Knicks jersey next year, and that his face is plastered all over every billboard in New york.Lebron James and Chris Bosh will bring this team back to the glory days of the 90's and very possibly a NBA Title. But if Lebrons not a Knick, will a tandem of Bosh and Joe Johnson be enough? Will Dwayne Wade leave Miami or try to court Lebron, Bosh or any of the other free agents that will be available to play for the Heat?
I know one thing Tracy Mcgrady is not the answer in New York, and the Knicks better look at a replacement for Chris Duhon who is probably one of the worst point guards in the NBA.
No matter what happens, July will be the most exciting time for Knicks fans in over a decade.
