NBA Trade Deadline: Houston Rockets Make Midnight T-Mac Swap with Kings

Denton RamseyFeb 18, 2010

Around the time bars were making last calls last night, the Houston Rockets pulled off a stunning trade.

In a last-second push, the Rockets are reportedly sending Tracy McGrady and sixth-man Carl Landry to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for high-scoring Kevin Martin in a seven-player deal.

The loss of Landry is especially shocking (and for me, momentary sadness).

But as I have stated all along, I have trust and faith in Houston general manager Daryl Morey.

I truly believe he wouldn’t make this trade unless he knew it would make the Rockets a better basketball team.

Granted, at first, waking up at 6 a.m. to hear this news made me want to crawl back in bed in hopes that this was just a bad dream.

But, this is reality, and Houston fans must now swallow hard in anticipation of moving on from here.

The details of the midnight swap also include Joey Dorsey going to Sacramento and Houston picking up forwards Kenny Thomas and Hilton Armstrong along with point guard Sergio Rodriguez.

I’ll be the first to admit that Landry, with his workhorse attitude and never-ending smile, will truly be missed.

But it’s a new chapter in Houston basketball, and we’ll all know soon enough how this trade will effect the Rockets in the wild West.
