Trade Deadline: Colorado Avalanche
As many of us know March 3rd is a special day for all 30 of the NHL's general managers, it is the trade deadline.
This years Avalanche are in my opinion the most surprising team in the NHL, with the acquiring of :
Craig Anderson which despite his great efforts did not make team USA and possibly the most underrated signing in last years UFA session.
Matt Duchene which is on track for rookie of the year leading all rookies in points.
Kyle Quincey that a lot of Avalanche fans were uncertain about since the Avalanche had to lose Ryan Smyth for him.
Joe Sacco, Many people Joe was simply a rental coach and were just waiting for Patrick Roy to want to coach the NHL but Sacco proved the critics wrong by having his team work harder, and take more shots.
Now finally back to the trade deadline
there are a few players who i believe there is a very good possibility to be traded such as,
Darcy Tucker: Tucker is an UFA at the end of the year and has been injured for a good part of the season at first he looked like his old self but is now out looking in.
John-Michael Liles: Although Liles has a no trade clause many I do believe he will waive it since coach Joe Sacco is not impressed by his efforts and contribution and expects more of him. Joe Sacco has made Liles a healthy scratch for a good amount of games now.
Marek Svatos: the once 30 goal scorer is now very bad in his defensive end , the effort is there, he just does not capitalize on his chances. Possibly a change of scenery would help the young player.
Ruslan Salei/Brett Clark: Both Clark and Salei are more or less in the same boat being dead weight in the club for being in the way of the younger more skillful players and players to come such as Shattenkirk, Gaunce, Cohen etc...
Then there are the untouchable players such as,
Matt Duchene, Craig Anderson, Chris Stewart , Paul Stastny, Ryan O'Reilly, and Wojtek Wolski who i believe if are traded away could jeopardize the future.
What the Avalanche need:
A power play quarterback The avalanche have suffered on the power play for a while now and some of the reason of that is the fact that other than Quincey they don't exactly have a point shot.
They should aquire someone like Souray, Kaberle or Visnovsky
A second line left wing Another flaw that the avalanche have is the left wing, other than Wolski the left wing is flat.
I think that they should be very interested in Alexei Ponikarovsky since he is exactly what they could use on the second line left wing.
