Over at gopherhole.com, I've read with interest the responses to an article I wrote that I apologized for long ago. I'm done apologizing about it. Now it's time to come out swinging.

Firstly, I admitted from the beginning I am not from here. I've never pretended I care for college sports in Minnesota, but I at least feel good for them when they win (which outside of the hockey team coached by Don Lucia, isn't very often.) But I wrote an article about the college team known as, as Chris Berman would call them, the Minnesota Football Gophers. An article that admittedly was filled with errors, but not those that would be back breaking. Instead of people coming to me as Kristoffer Fiecke did, to present evidence and tell me I was wrong, which I admitted I was, all I've been is insulted and ambushed.

My response? Are you people serious? You're the same type of people who burned jerseys with the NFC Title game loss. But no. I'm not stooping to that level of disgusting personal attacks. See, you people failed to read my profile, where it says that I take criticism as long as it is valid. Personal attacks make you look worse. It would be one thing if I was a Duke fan writing about UNC, but...really? This for a football team that got a guy who couldn't recruit who...couldn't land, as Kristoffer wrote, the highest level recruit to ever list the Gophers as a possibility?

And as for James Green, grades or no grades, he backed out of a commitment to Minnesota to go to Toledo. Don't take it out on me, take it out on the Star-Tribune sports section, which said, simply, that he chose to go to Toledo. Said nothing about grades. Consider that I actually read the Star-Trib, and suddenly your criticism holds no water and makes you look like a Packers fan. Fate worse than death, if you ask me.

Now. Seantrel Henderson teased the Gopher faithful from day one of his Senior year that he was going to the U. Where was I wrong about that? Oh, that's right...I wasn't. But you people...well, some of you, others just made me laugh...had to get personal. That's where I stop listening. Then it's not really criticism, it's just childish claptrap.

I don't root for Illinois because Ron Zook sucks. In fact, the team I care the most about is Minnesota, and that's because I live here. I don't root for Northwestern. Hell, I barely care about the Big Ten because I have other things to do. But...I was asked to write an article, I did research, and that's the way the cookie crumbles. Now, you're invited to read any of my pro analysis, because THAT'S where I do my best work. But until then, that's how things are.
