Gegard Mousasi: On The Road to Be The Next Fedor

David ModerFeb 9, 2010

Fedor Emelianenko.

The first words that may pop into your mind once you hear this famous fighters name could be "amazing," "invincible," or any other great word. Some people might currently think of him as overrated, but I'm sure every MMA fan knows that Fedor was (if not still is) the best P4P fighter.

If anybody doesn't believe my amateur opinion, E. Spencer Kyte, (one of the best writers in BR) recently wrote an article addressing the matter that Fedor is still the top heavyweight at the very least.

However, the sad truth is that "The Last Emperor" may soon fall. His age, 34, is considered very old for a fighter. Many fighters retire at that age. For example, Anderson Silva is 35, and already has plans to retire. We can only hope that he lasts another five years, but it's likely that the most time Fedor can reign for is two years before he finally falls.

Fortunately, a new emperor has arrived.

Gegard Mousasi is slowly rising and becoming a serious threat to everybody in the light heavyweight division. His record, 28-2-1, is incredible and already is better than the likes of Anderson Silva and BJ Penn.

With such a large record, one would expect Mousasi to be 30-years-old at the very least, but shockingly he is only 25. The potential for him is enormous and at this rate he could be P4P king by the time he is 28.

This youngster already has the scalps of many strong MMA fighters, including Hector Lombard, Denis Kang, Melvin Manhoef, Ronaldo Souza, Mark Hunt, Renato Sobral, and Sokoudjou.

His skills were unmistakable against experienced and extremely strong fighter Renato "Babalu" Sobral, he dominated and made Babalu look downright like a beginner. With that kind of performance, Mousasi can already hang with the very best.

Mousasi has the striking and submissions to make an even bigger statement in his division than he already has, and he is constantly improving. It is only a matter of time before Gegard Mousasi takes over the light heavyweight division. He has already taken it over in Strikeforce.

Expect Fedor's young student to follow in his footsteps and become one of the greatest fighters that ever lived.
