Dear Mr. McMahon,
As I sit here in my man-cave, the normal place for me to watch my NFL, NBA, WWE, and MMA events, I find myself similar to what an addict would be like.
I am trying to soak in every possible NFL activity that I possibly can. I even listened to Deion Sanders on the NFL Network. I have checked all of my normal NFL posts, ESPN, profootballtalk.com, a few different google searches, and especially, Bleacher Report.
I do this because I know that as soon as this football game is over, I will once again be without the ability to watch a real football game on TV for seven months.
Yeah, the start of free agency is fun, but as a Steelers fan, that normally leads to more heart break than it does excitement in bringing in free agents.
And sure, we have the NFL Draft, which is changing its format this year, with the first round of the Draft on Thursday night. But, again, that is only a weekend.
So, as I look around the web, I am finding some very interesting things that are troubling me.
The state of the NFL and it's labor issues. We may only have one more year of football before a lockout, or a strike. Either or, does not matter which one it is, we still won't have football to watch.
On profootballtalk.com, they were saying how the NFL may change the rules so that offensive linemen will no longer start in a three-point stance, to help eliminate concussions. The NFL is turning into a wimpy sport.
Mr. McMahon, what you at one time had with the XFL was truly original. It is something that did not have the tradition of the NFL, or the following, or the money, or the popularity. But it was FOOTBALL.
The changes that you made to the game that we all love, were original. The scramble for the ball instead of the coin toss...genius. And if the game went to overtime, the team that won, got the ball then as well.
Old school rules were great as well. It was like football before it got wimpy.
And that is not even mentioning the cheerleaders!
We, as a community, are asking you to PLEASE bring back the XFL. We now know what we are missing. We will support it this time. And we promise you, if and when the NFL is not playing, we will be watching.
You only played one single year. Give it more time, and I know that it will be a success.
