Ever since Vince McMahon made the announcement ending ECW and his subsequent announcement of the new WWE program NXT, people everywhere have been weighing in with their opinions on the new show.
Days have past and rumours about the show continue to circulate as to what the format of the new show will be. This buzz got a boost, when pictures and a SyFy commercial, surfaced on the net, featuring the new NXT logo.
Now for some reason that I can't really explain, the way the X was displayed in the new logo got me thinking about TNA. Anyway, one thought led to another and this thought train led me to the headline above.
OK, I know there are a lot of reasons why this won't happen. The biggest one probably being that if WWE uses the same taping structure that it currently employs on ECW with NXT, changing the ring back and forth would probably be logistically impossible.
If hypothetically, the WWE could work out all the problems and did decide to go this route, then I think that it would be one of the most interesting and intriguing things ever done by WWE.
Ever since Hulk Hogan scrapped the six sided ring, he has taken a lot of heat from long time TNA fans for it. At TNA's Genesis PPV, Hogan made the assertion that a six sided ring was one of the reasons TNA was not as popular as WWE.
For WWE to take its newest show, and give it a six sided ring would be seen as the ultimate burn to TNA for many different reasons. Think about it, all the fans who were upset at TNA for scrapping the six sides, would probably be compelled to watch this new show.
Another interesting point about this would be Vince McMahon essentially calling out Hulk Hogan. Vince would be saying “OK Hulk, you think your a better promoter than me? Well guess what? I am going to take your old ring, slap a WWE logo on it and draw more ratings than you can with Impact. ”
The hilarious part about this is that TNA wouldn't really have a leg to stand on here, because what could they say, “Well you stole that idea from us!! ”
They could say that, but the biting comeback to that would be, “Yea, we used an idea you admitted was one reason you haven't been as successful, and we'll make it into a successful product. ”
Finally, the best part of all of this is that WWE would really have nothing to lose here. Think about it, ECW's ratings have been hovering around the 1.0 mark for awhile. Somehow, I don't think that them changing the ring shape for one of their programs would adversely affect that number.
In fact, I would think that viewership would increase because people would be compelled to watch and see how the WWE would go about incorporating the six sides into a new product.
As much as I like this idea and think that WWE could succeed with it, I highly doubt we will ever see it happen. I mean, I have no idea if anyone in WWE likes the six sided ring. Heck, for all I know, maybe they agreed with Hogan's decision.
Also, WWE has done everything to ignore TNA, and a move like this could be viewed as them acknowledging TNA as a threat. Based on what I've seen with WWE, I don't think they would want to do anything to acknowledge TNA right now.
OK readers, now it's your turn. What would you think if the WWE reintroduced the six sided ring on NXT?
