The Detroit Lions have showed that not only can they hang in and score point on the leagues better teams week in and week out, and even get a lead on some of those teams, and hold it till the last 15:00 min of the game.

The Offense has put points on the board, the Defense has made some plays and at times this past season looked as if they were going to turn it around and WIN some football games, and then it happens!

The same thing that has caused them to LOSE for the past several seasons, they get up and then rest on their lead and the other teams strike back and by the time it all over its too late to do anything about it, and they lost another heart breaker.

Several times all season long they played with heart and with what looked like a fighting chance, they lack the drive to fight for the win till the very end.

Except once! The Browns game lead by the future of their offense Matthew Stafford showed that he is a QB with the talent to make plays in the clutch.

Historically the Lions have always had the same problem, stellar players at several key positions on both sides of the ball, mixed with lack luster players at other key positions, like both lines!

Wayne Fontes had the same issue's couple with a lack of leadership at the QB position, and absolutely no production from the line. I mean could you imagine What Barry Sanders would have been able to do if he had a line blocking for him? Could you imagine how bad he would have ran away with the rushing title year after year, and in the end how far out of reach the all time rushing yardage record would be, had a) he had a line blocking for him and b)he played just a few more years? Which we all know he had at least 2 or 3 more strong seasons in him!

This years draft holds the key to the future of the Lions and the success of Coach Schwartz and his staff.

With the hopeful addition of the awesome DT Ndamukong Suh, or the very good Gerald McCoy, which WILL sure up the defensive line, and for the first time in who knows when the Lions could very well contend in the NFC North!

With Martin Mayhew in at GM it also looks like the Lions have a staff in place to take them into the future and back into the playoffs for the first time since 1999 when Bobby Ross lead the team to a typical 1st round loss!

It would come as a shock if the Lions draft anyone else if the first 2 rounds but lineman to bolster the skill positions they already have filled!

Free Agency could also hold a card or two in the Lions there are several good to great players available in the free agent pool that the Lions could benefit from adding to a team that could be 2 or 3 key players away from a winning season for the first time since 2000.

Now I am not in anyway saying that 2 or 3 players makes the Lions Super Bowl contenders but it will certainly help them become a winning team!
