Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterbacks: What Does Their Offseason Hold?

Last year, I pondered the question , was Dennis Dixon ready to be the backup to Ben Roethlisberger?

The Steelers were not too sure if he was, so Charlie Batch was brought back. In the limited action Batch was in, three plays against the Kansas City Chiefs, he was injured, so second year pro Dixon was thrown into the spot light against the Baltimore Ravens, in Baltimore, on the national stage that is Sunday Night Football.

Dixon responded with a night that no one expected. Even though his numbers were not of legend (12 of 26, 145 yards, 1TD, 1 INT. 3 rushes for 27 yards/1 TD, 60.6 QB Rating), Dixon held his own against not only one of the best defenses in the NFL but against the hated rival Ravens.

Dixon showed poise, but more than that, he showed that he was not afraid to stand in the pocket, and be a PASSER first. Dixon also had a run of about 40 yards that was called back due to a holding call.

So, what does that mean for Charlie Batch?

Batch is from Pittsburgh and joined the Steelers in 2002. He has been a reliable backup, and has won two Super Bowls with the Steelers.

Last offseason, Batch did not even speak with any teams other than the Steelers. He wants to be a Steeler and retire with the team.

Will Batch come back as the third stringer? Will his NFL career come to an end?

Only time will tell, but Batch will always be known for what he has done not only for the Steelers, but as someone that has helped Ben Roethlisberger become the player he is.

And that is as one of the best in the game.
