2010 National Signing Day: South Carolina's Standouts
With theย decision of Marcus Lattimore on the horizon, South Carolina has added some talent to this year's recruiting class.ย
Since the turn of the new year, South Carolina has added WR Ace Sanders (pictured above) this week, and Victor Hampton during the Under Armor All-American game.
Toquaivius Gilchrist, a South Carolina native, returned to his home state by making his commitment to South Carolina out of El Dorado, Kan.ย
A.J. Cann from Bamberg, S.C., as well as Kelcy Quarles from Greenwood, S,C., round out the top end of South Carolina's 2010 recruiting class, at least thus far, with the aforementioned Lattimore, and Justin Parker (aย linebacker) being the two biggest names left.
The 2010 recruiting season has been an important one for South Carolina.ย The offensive line has been the biggest problem for the Gamecocks over the last few seasons.ย
It has contributed to the other problems that have confounded the Gamecocks over the last few seasons.ย They've signed six offensive linemen (including Cann) to this point.
Cody Gibson, Du'Von Milsap, Ronald Patrick, Cory Robinson and Tramell Williams round out the new offensive line.ย
These recruits will be the firstย new members of the offensive line forย three time National Championship offensive line coach at Appalachian State, Shawn Elliott.ย
Elliottย takes over for former South Carolina offensive line coach and now Youngstown State Head Coachย Eric Wolford.ย ย
Anotherย highlight of the class includes Flowery Branch (Ga.) quarterback Connor Shaw, who will most likely be the number two quarterback behind Stephen Garcia, if Shaw isn't red-shirted to give him an extra year of eligibility after Garcia's senior season.ย
Shaw, a dual-threat quarterback, is 6'2", 195 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds.
With this class on top of their very young, very talented team returning from last year, expectations are higher than usual in Columbia.ย With the direction recruiting took, it's quite safe to say that a lot depends on the offensive line.ย
Signing Day 2010 can heavily impact South Carolina's standings in recruiting as well.ย The current 31st-ranked team in the country in recruiting, the Gamecocks, with Lattimore and Parker, could move a substantial amount of points closer to the top 25.
