Why Bill Polian is the Greatest Football Mind Not Named Peyton Manning
Evaluating talent and assembling a staff to teach that talent is a skill. That skill has been perfected by Indianapolis Colts President and five time Executive of the Year Bill Polian.Ā
Recently, fans in Indianapolis and nationwide have had somewhat of a "beef" with the mastermind of so many talented NFL franchises due to his decision to rest players rather than compete for an opportunity to have a perfect season.
Personally, I trust the mans judgement. I mean, c'mon, lets just look at his history...

When so called draft experts were calling "Cryin" Ryan Leaf the next best thing since Dan Marino...Polian drafted a guy named Peyton. I think that worked out pretty well.
When everyone and their mom wanted Ricky Williams, we drafted a running back from Miami named Edge. He ended up giving us his all while Ricky just smoked his bong.
When future HOF coach Tony Dungy retired, he replaced him with a man (Jim Caldwell) who only started his head coaching career with an NFL record 14 consecutive wins and a trip to the Super Bowl.Ā
Throughout his NFL career, he has signed Hall of Fame coaches from Marv Levy to Tony Dungy, and the teams that he has created have competed in six Super Bowls, (including Super Bowl 44) Bill Polian is the greatest person in NFL history to never put on a helmet.
Do I think his IQ is vastly greater than average? No. Can he see the future? Doubt it. Is he magic? Nah. He is what he asks of his colleagues...he is a man that works very hard everyday to put a product on the field that the city of Indianapolis can be proud of. Ā
When people complain about his decisions, it makes me think of the days before we had a HOF mastermind creating our dynasty. Seasons of having to listen to the game on the radio because of media blackouts. Watching our team not compete. Or worse, watching the Colts draft players like Jeff George and Steve Entman.Ā
This man knows football. If Bill Polian signed a blind man with no arms and said he was going to play receiver for the Colts...I'd give him a chance.Ā
The next time that we have this rest em or play em debate (probably next December) and everyone gets all pissy...let's just thank our lucky stars that we have been lucky enough to even be in a position for that opportunity, because without Bill Polian and all of his decisions...who knows where we would be.Ā
