WWE's John Cena Draws Big Ratings for Psych, but Was He Any Good?

Spoilers ahead, so beware if you haven't seen the show yet.

John Cena appeared in the season premiere of Psych on the USA Network. The episode drew a 3.3 rating, which is better than last season's debut. But was it as good?

Cena portrayed the older brother of Detective O'Hara, a love interest of the main character Shawn. Cena was a military ops kind of guy who had high level clearance and a vague job description.

The episode saw Shawn and Gus investigate the alleged suicide of another military officer and they eventually teamed with Cena to take down the bad guy.

What the crew failed to notice until it was almost too late was that Cena was hindering the investigation in order to take out the bad guy on his own.

In the end, Cena was arrested by Det. O'Hara for attempted murder. The thing that struck me as the oddest choice was bringing in Robert Patrick as the head of the military base. 

Patrick played opposite Cena in The Marine as the bad guy, but in Psych the roles were reversed and Cena went to jail while Patrick was off the hook. 

Cena's role certainly drew some big ratings for the crime comedy, but Cena himself seemed to be playing himself more than a character. He has the same attitude and persona he portrays on WWE television, giving his performance a forced feel to it.

Overall, I would say the episode was not as strong on plot as it was on guest stars, as Patrick and Cena made their one off appearances and Rachel Leigh Cook played Shawn's girlfriend.

I would rate Cena's appearance on Psych a 6.5/10.
