Faint NCAA Tournament hopes will be on the line in the Sunshine State in one of Thursday nightās showcase Big East betting affairs when the Seton Hall Pirates (12-6, 4-8 ATS) look to build momentum in conference play against the South Florida Bulls (12-7, 11-6-1 ATS). The Pirates have rallied to back-to-back victories in Big East action at home (64-61 vs. Pittsburgh, 80-77 vs. Louisville), but will be looking to take down their first road scalp of the conference slate. South Florida won a epic NCAA basketball betting affair with the Friars on Saturday night, cashing in on a 109-105 road āWā.
HC Bobby Gonzalez is really on the verge of something special at Seton Hall. With some road victories, this could be the year that the Pirates get back to the dance. G Jeremy Hazell is certainly worth the price of admission alone. He may not have the greatest shooting percentages on the season (42.1% from the floor, 33.3% from downtown), but he has a knack of making acrobatic plays and coming up in the clutch when the Hall needs him most. Hazell is averaging 22.2 points per game to easily lead the team with five other players averaging at least eight points per game.
South Florida has a key scorer of its own. G Dominique Jones is coming off of a sterling 46-point effort against Providence and is now averaging 21.0 points per game on the year. However, Jones is arguably more valuable to his team than Hazell is. The junior is averaging 6.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest to boot. The offensive explosion against the Friars was probably an anomaly for the Bulls, as they are only averaging a pedestrian 69.5 points per game in ā09-ā10.
To make matters worse for South Florida, it has never beaten Seton Hall since the teams were united in the Big East. The Bulls covered the first game in this series all-time, but since then, it has been all Pirates. The Hall is a perfect 6-0 SU and ATS in its L/6 tries against USF, including victories of 68-54 in the Big East Tournament and 75-60 at home in ā08-ā09.
