Will You Watch the WWE Santino Marella Sitcom?

The Doctor Chris MuellerJan 26, 2010

Details have just come out that WWE is planning a sitcom based around Santino Marella.Ā  This will be WWE's first attempt at a television product not associated with live wrestling.

Santino himself spilled the details in an interview recently.Ā  Beth Phoenix and Vladimir Kozlov are set to play his girlfriend and best friend respectively.Ā  This will not be Kozlov's first try at acting, as he appeared in Spike Lee's 25th Hour and HBO's The Wire.

Santino is without a doubt WWE's top comedic property at the moment.Ā  He has proved he is willing to do pretty much anything for the sake of entertaining the fans, including donning drag gear and claiming to be his own sister.

This comes as no surprise to me personally.Ā  I have felt that Santino has been a hard worker and a great team player when it comes to his character, so for WWE to reward his hard work with his own sitcom kind of makes sense.

The exact format is still unclear at the moment, but Santino described it as like Seinfeld with him instead of Jerry.

If the show actually portrays him as a wrestler, then it will be the first show of its kind. If he is just another guy in a regular job, then this could be WWE's attempt to diversify its product even further.

WWE has their hands in many different entertainmentĀ cookie jars, so to speak. They produce movies and music, and they put on a live show every Monday and three more taped shows each week, plus a monthly Pay Per View event.

Vince Mcmahon has made it clear that he wants to do more than produce wrestling, so a sitcom makes sense as the next big move.Ā

The specific network has not been determined as of right now, but USA would be logical since it is the home of Raw. NBC could also be looking to get into bed with WWE as well since they put on the occasional Saturday Night Main Event show.

I for one will tune in to see what kind of antics Santino Vladimir and Beth get into.Ā Ā Hopefully this show is actually written by television writers and not the WWE creative team, because that would not turn out well.

What do you think? Will a Santino Sitcom work or flop?
