The Toronto Maple Leafs have finally gotten rid of goaltender Andrew Raycroft so now what lie’s for the franchise in the back up role? Justin Pogge is the perfect candidate for the position. Pogge has proven him self both in the WHL and AHL so why not start your future star goaltender a few years as back up to Vesa Toskola. Toskola with 1 year left in his contract could be pushed a side if Pogge does get the call and performs well.

Justin Pogge was shaking in his first AHL season with the Marlies in 2006-2007 posting 19 wins 25 loses and 2 shootout loses but did manage 3 shutouts. Pogge rebounded this past 2007-2008 season with 26 wins 10 loses 4 shootout loses and 4 shutouts. He lead the Marlies in to the playoffs he recorded 1 win and 1 loss as Scott Clemenson was played most of the way.

Bringing Pogge up to the leafs next season will give him experience and prepare him for many NHL seasons to come. Scouts have said nothing but good things about Justin some have even gone as fare as saying he will be just as good as Carey Price if not better.

The 22 year old has proved his self in he AHL so why not test him as a back up in the NHL he is the leafs future so this move if made could be nothing but good for the Maple Leafs.
