Cowboys Top Five Plays Of The Season

Derek MajorJan 25, 2010

The Cowboys had a good season and although they didn't make it to the promise land of the Super Bowl, it was still a season to remember. While there were many exciting plays, I managed to narrow it down to the five plays that shaped the Cowboys' season.

With the Cowboys 13-7 in the third quarter against the Bucks, Romo dropped back and found Roy Williams on a slant over the middle and he outran the Bucs secondary for a 66-yard TD.

This TD made people believe that Williams and Romo had finally gotten on the same page and were going to be a consistent combination throughout the season, but just a few weeks later Romo found his No. 1 receiver.

4) Miles Austin's Game Winning TD vs. Chiefs.

With the game in OT tied at 20, Romo hit Miles Austin for a six-yard comeback, but Austin broke Maurice Legget's tackle and took off for a 60-yard TD and the game.

It was Austin's first start as a Cowboy and he racked up a franchise record 250 yards receiving on 10 catches and asserted himself as a go-to-guy for Romo.

3) Tony Romo Escapes Falcons D-line and Throws TD to Crayton.

With 13 seconds left in the half on third-and-goal, Romo dropped back and was in immediate trouble as the Falcons ran a stunt to the outside. However, Romo avoided Jonathan Babineax then ran around the two defensive linemen and ducked under the fourth rusher.

Romo then looked up and found a wide open Patrick Crayton for his first score of the day. Crayton later added a punt return for a TD and the Cowboys blew out the Falcons 37-21.

2) Jay Ratliff Recovers Botched Snap vs. Eagles in Week 17.

With the Cowboys up 14-0 just before halftime, the Eagles finally got the ball moving with a 32-yard catch and run by DeSean Jackson that set the Eagles up at the Dallas 15-yard line. On the next play, McNabb botched the snap from backup center Nick Cole and Jay Ratliff fell on the ball to recover it.

The Cowboys made a field goal with the drive and took a 17-0 halftime lead on their way to a 24-0 win, the NFC East title, and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

1) Bradie James Forces and Recovers Leonard Weaver Fumble.

(The Fumble is 50 seconds into the highlight reel.)

In the Wild Card round, the Cowboys were again up 24-7 before halftime with the Eagles driving and at the Cowboys 48-yard line. Donovan Mcnabb couldn't find a receiver downfield so dropped the ball off to fullback Leonard Weaver.

Weaver was hit by James who then pulled the ball out of Weaver's arms and recovered the ball himself, halting the Eagles drive.  When the Cowboys added a field goal before the half, they were on their way to their first playoff win in 13 years.

These five plays can tell you a lot about the Cowboys season, but if you think there are other plays that should be in the top five, feel free to comment.
