Dear Vikings Fans: Don't Blame Overtime, Blame Your Team
So as soon as I logged on here today, I noticed an article displaying the disdain for NFL overtime rules.
For years and years I have been frustrated with NFL overtime. It is usually not fair when the other team doesn't get a chance to score after an even first sixty minutes of play.
However, overtime got it right last night.

Everyone is complaining how the game came down to a coin toss; however, you cannot honestly cite that same complaint to blame for what happened last night.
Favre and company blew it.
The Vikings committed five turnovers—the cardinal sin of football.
The Vikings outgained the Saints by over two hundred yards and were in position to win the game with less than a minute to go.
They had the ball at the 35-yard line, which meant a 53-yard field goal attempt was possible.
They broke the huddle with twelve men, after a timeout no less, which is even more embarrassing.
Not to mention the fact Favre even tried to call another timeout before the flag was thrown. NFL rules do not allow for two timeouts to be called in a row, which is disappointing because I would have loved to see how Favre reacted when he signaled timeout and the play clock continued to run.
But, just as deservingly, the Vikings had to move back five yards—out of field goal range. On the very next play, Favre easily could have run to get those yards back and set up the field goal again.
He threw the ball back across his body down field. It was intercepted.
The Saints capitalized on the Vikings colossal failures, but unfortunately they could not muster up any points in the final seconds of regulation. Time beat them.
So, to me it was perfectly fair that New Orleans won the game in overtime. This game did not come down to a coin toss.
It came down to five turnovers and an inexcusable penalty at the end of the game.
Agree or disagree?
