Cancer and Sports: It Ends Where It Started and Triumphant For All
It is only fitting that the final playoff game between the Vikings and the Saints ended the way it did.Ā A struggle to the finish with an amazing field goal that will take the Saints to their first Super Bowl.Ā There were fumbles, injuries good calls and bad calls and we had a horse race until the end. The final play was just a picture perfect field goal that sealed the deal.
The cancer saga began at the beginning of football season when we arrived in Houston to the view of Reliant Field from the hotel window and Jeff's demeanor changed from one of cancer patient to football fan.Ā For all these months his ups and downs have been chronicled right here for he surely is not the only one facing life challenges who has found distraction and excitement in sports.Ā

So the saga ends here,Ā with four teams all beating the odds to make it to the championship games.Ā There was the old quarterback who played through pain ,theĀ rookie quarterback, the up and coming Big BreEasy and the experienced Manning.Ā And Jeff too has beaten the odds.Ā We watched the games today with an easy heart thanks to a team of young and old doctors and scientists who beat the odds and cured Jeff, a long field goal, if you will following, a Hail Mary.Ā He now has his life back and we will celebrate the Super Bowl with more excitement that we have ever had.
