The New Orleans Saints (Media, Milk Cows, and Dead Horses Too!)
I have come to the conclusion that most of the major sports media can’t tell the difference between a dead horse and a milk cow. This is because all across the broad spectrum of that same sports media, there are stories that are milking hard on the carcass of that old, dead plow horse.
In a nutshell, and if you really didn’t know any better, you might come to believe that the New Orleans Saints were in a high state of grace and that the entire Gulf Coast region was depending, life and limb, on a Super Bowl win.
Oh yes, you will be reminded that some four and a half years ago, Katrina made a huge mess of that area and the lives of countless millions. You will also be dragged-lined to shore before being hung tail-up with stories of woe and how these long suffering folks are dining on hope alone.
Deep breath!
That all being said now, I will admit that I am rooting for the Saints…though not because of any pity partying, empty Jambalaya pot syndrome. I just favor the NFC South in much the same way I am a fan of the SEC.
And what if the Saints don’t win? What then?
Will New Orleans slip beneath the fetid waters of Lake Pontchartrain? Will the entirety of the US Gulf Coast fall into a state of chaos, clinical, and/or economic depression? Will tourists, by the millions, suddenly decide to vacation somewhere else…like the ruddy beaches of Lake Lanier in Atlanta?
Iiiieeee! Please win Saints!!
(Ahem!)

I think the Saints will win it all because they have the right personnel and coaching at exactly the right time. But if they don’t, and if they manage to keep critical talent from fleeing to the free agency market, they should be back in the playoffs again next year.
Not only that, the sports media can (of course) come back again in early 2011 and yank a few more times on that long deceased horse!
That's called a win-win in media-speak and, in my humble opinion, a picture worth painting here at the Bleacher Report every year!
