How Will the Michigan Wolverines' 2010 Recruiting Class Fare?

Peter WhiteJan 23, 2010

We are officially less than two weeks away from National Signing Day on February 3. Now it's time to take a look at some of the top recruits coming to Ann Arbor next season:

Devin Gardner

This Highly touted QB, rated five stars by Scout.com, is considered to be one of the best QBs in the nation.

He threw for over 1,886 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He added 115 carries for 1,401 yards and 22 touchdowns during his junior season. He has enrolled early and is expected to compete for the starting job next season.

However, in my opinion, he will red shirt not only to separateĀ himself from Tate Forcier but to also work on his mechanics.

Cullen Christian

The very highly ranked conerback out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is considered Michigan's top prospect for the 2010 class.Ā

Christian finished his junior season with 35 tackles, two interceptions and one fumble caused. He benches 245 pounds and can squat 315 pounds 20 times. According to scouts.com, he has the ability to be a lockdown corner, but relies a bit too much on instinct. Overall he is a very good prospect and, like all freshmen, will have some things to work on before he hits the field in Ann Arbor

One of the top safety prospects in the State of Maryland, Furman finished his senior seasonĀ  carrying the ball 239 time for 2,285 yards and 31 touchdowns. On defense, he had 60 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions with one defensive touchdown.

He racked up 1,050 yards on those 31 touchdown carries alone, averaging 33.9 yards per touchdown carry. His father was former Maryland guard Tyrone Furman who was a three year letterman.

We are very weak in the secondary, especially with the departure of Donovan Warren to the NFL, so Furman will add depth to a very weak secondary. Whether or not he will see playing time is yet to be determined.

Overall, this recruiting class looks very solid. Of the 26 commitments, 13 are on the defensive side of the ball, adding depth, especially in the secondary. Thirteen are on the offensive side of the ball, with the top prospect being Devin Gardner, there is also added depth at RB and WR in this class.

With four WR and three RB, we should be solid at these positions next season. Ā This class has a chance to be part of something special at Michigan (a Big Ten Title?)

But I'm not giving any predictions just yet..
