Michigan State's Football Prospects 2010: Sign on the Dotted Line
With one Rivals100 prospect committed, the Spartans are looking forward to beefing up for the 2010 season. The current class has been rated 3.22 stars by Rivals.com.
Eighteen players have committed, with more visiting in the coming weeks. Feb. 3āNational Signing Dayāwill be an exciting day for all college football fans; they'll have to wait to see who their schools land.
Here's a look, in no particular order, at some of the top talent considering or already enrolled at Michigan State.
William Gholston (DE, Southeastern HS, Detroit, Mich.) Rivals Top10
Ohhhh, would Head Coach Mark Dantonio love to land this one.
Gholston has "blue chip" speed and strengthāand word is, he's ready to come to East Lansing. Gholston is the No. 4 DE according to Rivals.com, and he'd be a great fit in Pat Narduzzi's defense.
Narduzzi and Dan Enos get the credit for luring Gholston to Michigan State, but it's not a done deal. State fans will have to wait until Feb. 3 to see if the 6'7", 237-pound "Beast from the D" is going to sign on the dotted line.
Gholston visited Jan. 15.
Leveon Bell (RB, Groveport Madison HS, Reynoldsburg, Ohio)
The Spartans have been known for great running backs in the past. Javon Ringer, Sedrick Irvin, Lorenzo White, and Jehuu Caulcrick come to mind when thinking of some of State's best ball-carriers.
With the addition of Edwin Baker and Larry Caper last year, State looks to have two more studs carrying the rock.
Let's add Bell to the list (hopefully).
Bell is 6'1" and 220 pounds and runs a 4.6 40 (yard dash).
He benches 310 pounds and squats 550. He has strong legs for running and even stronger arms for making sure he holds on to the football.
Mike Tressel brought the Spartans a gem, and Bell will enroll and participate in spring practice.
Bell is rated two stars by Rivals.com.
Max Bullough (LB, St. Francis Catholic HS, Traverse City, Mich.)
Does the last name ring a bell? It should. Bullough's father, Chuck, played at Michigan State and was All-Big Ten First Team in 1991.
The second-generation Spartan is a lot like his dad, and that's a good thing.
Max Bullough is a stout 6'3" and 225 pounds, and he is known for 100+ tackle seasons in high school. He has decent speed and great strength, and he will be a fine pass rusher/coverage linebacker.
St. Francis also used Bullough at running back in short-yard situations, which shows his versatility.
Bullough committed two years ago, but Spartan fans will finally get a chance to see him in action come fall.
He is rated four stars by Rivals.com.
Isaiah Lewis (S, Ben Davis HS, Indianapolis, Ind.)
The 5'11", 190-pound safety out of Indy should be a dandy at Michigan State when it's all said and done.
Lewis has lightning speed (4.4 40) and has a good vertical leap (33"). He'll be a welcome addition to the Spartan secondary, who lost some depth because of dismissals (names not needed at this point).
Skyler Schofner (OL, Big Walnut HS, Sunbury, Ohio)
Schofner is a four-star rated recruit according to Rivals.com.
His physical presence alone is valuable. He's a towering 6'7" and 276 pounds and runs a five-flat 40.
Kirk Cousins has already thanked Mike Tressel and Dan Roushar for this one; you can be sure of that.
Schofner will add terrific pass protection/run blocking for Don Treadwell's offense.
He committed in November and visited just a week ago. By all accounts, he is good to go.
