The first practice speeds are in and to tell you the truth I am not surprised at all.  Kevin Harvick(RCR Car) was fastest in practice 1 for the Lenox 300. The rest of the top five went like this

1. Kevin Harvick

2. Jimmie Johnson

3. Juan Montoya

4. Clint Bowyer

5. Kasey Kahne

Notice that last races winner at New Hampshire was fourth fastest (RCR CAR) and his teammate was fastest...Like I said before, "think they share notes?"

Other note-ables were

24 in 8th(think that's where I predicted he would be about)

20 in 10th

18 in  17th

31 in 24th

99 in 36th

88 in who cares

While first practice doesn't give a great indication as to who will win the race it does give a good marker as to where the teams are as far as laps run and in later practices the progress they have made.

Now to the pole.  Here are my top five picks to win the pole.  (48, 9, 20, 07, 12)

I'm almost convinced Johnson will win the pole.  When Jimmie is fast in the first practice he makes it count in qualifying.  He hits his marks and is one of the smarter drivers out there.  Don't get me wrong.  I'm not supporting Jimmie or his Hendrick team, but he does do a very good job in qualifying, especially when he's fast in practice.  "But Kevin Harvick was fastest in practice."  Well Kevin Harvick also slid into three cars last week at the road course which equals 0 confidence in Harvick.

Also don't count out Bowyer.  He's fast and won the pole here last year in the COT so he knows how to qualify at this my two strongest picks are 48 & 07 and the rest of the top five 9, 12, 24.

This is one of my favorite parts of the week and I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as me.

Make your picks for the pole and good luck!
