Keys To The Wolf Den: Timberwolves That Could Be Traded by the Deadline

Timber WolfAnalyst IIJanuary 22, 2010

The Minnesota Timberwolves GM David Kahn has been straightforward with his plans for the future. Coming into the league, David Kahn stated from the start, that it would take a year, possibly two or three before the Wolves could think about making the playoffs.

His credentials are there as well as his credibility, but with the leagues 2nd worst record, one would wonder if the Wolves would trade any of their players?

The Minnesota Timberwolves currently have a core of Jonny Flynn, Corey Brewer, Al Jefferson and Kevin Love, and all possibly could garner some value in a trade.

David Kahn however, has made numerous statements about "not trading the core pieces" of the Timberwolves roster.

With the 2010 NBA draft, the Timberwolves are already on set to make an impact by possibly having three picks in the top 20, but possibly could acquire more by trading some of their assets for draft picks, and or other young talent.

Wolves fans should look for these players to be traded by the deadline:

Ryan Gomes (SF/PF): The perfect example of a role player with starting potential. Having a long wingspan, and being 6'7'', Ryan Gomes possesses a great outside-inside game that can be beneficial to a team lacking depth, or is hindered by injuries, and needing a young saavy veteran leader to play backup. Wolves would probably look for a late first round pick for Gomes.

Ramon Sessions (PG/SG): While Ramon hasn't gotton any playing time, he's still considered a young prospect that has tremendous upside. Only three years in the league, and he has recorded a triple-double, a 40+ point game, and has a great assist to turnover ratio.

Ramon Sessions is a starting caliber point guard, and could benefit any team looking to fill that need. With Wolves GM David Kahn clearly looking at Jonny Flynn being their future, Ramon has no real future as a Wolf. Wolves can possibly steal a top 20 first round pick with Sessions, or trade him for a young big man prospect.
Expiring Contracts: Brian Cardinal, Mark Blount, Alando Tucker, Oleksiy Pecherov, Nathan Jawai and Sasha Pavlovic can all likely be traded. More second round picks or cash likely for these players.

It's likely the Wolves will trade for picks, but there are a few players that I would like to trade for:

Robin Lopez (C): Robin Lopez is Brook Lopez's brother, but despite that might being able to speak for itself, Robin Lopez is a legit 7-footer, and is able to block shots.

Rudy Fernandez (SG):
I have no idea what the Wolves could trade for Fernandez (SESSIONS!), but the guy would excel as a Wolf, and help transition to the NBA easier.

Javale McGee (C): Another legit 7-footer with ridiculous upside.

Chris Douglas-Roberts (SG):
A 6'8'' SG/SF with upside, and has already started averaging double figures with the Nets (big accomplishment right?).

Thanks for reading!

P.S- Add any players I might have missed/you would trade for.
