Does Arsenal Now Boast the Best Midfield Trio in the League?
At the beginning of the season many felt Arsenal lacked a decent squad to pose any sort of title threat, but now, after coming back from 2-0 down to defeat a doughty Bolton side 2-0, Arsenal are top of the table and well on track to win their first trophy since 2005.
Much of their recent strong form has come from the midfield. Arsenal boast a tremendously talented midfield, but currently this season three stand out. Undoubtedly captain and maestro Cesc Fabregas stands out as the best. But the recent contributions of Alexandre Song and Abou Diaby have enabled people to ponder whether Arsenal boast the best midfield trio in the League.
Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal's captain and fearless leader, Cesc Fabregas, who will do absolutely everything he can to ensure an Arsenal win, has matured even more this season and has now become an almost unstoppable midfield dynamo. The Spaniard's intelligence, passing, and movement have improved to the level where he can change the game in a flash.
The 22-year-old is such a vital part of this Arsenal lineup, and the former Barcelona youth is desperate for some hardware to come to the Emirates.
Currently Arsenal's leading scorer and assister, it's easy to see why Cesc Fabregas is one of the English Premier League's and World's best midfielders.
Alexandre Song
Although currently away from the Arsenal squad due to his selection in the Cameroon squad for the African Cup of Nations, Alexandre Song has matured sensationally this season and has become a predominant figure on the Arsenal team.
Last season, the Cameroonian was subject to heavy criticism, thanks to some inconsistent and lacklustre showings. But that was simply a learning curve for the 22-year-old, who has become one of the most consistent defensive midfielders in the League.
The amount of time Song cuts down an opposition's attack and tracks back to aid his defenders is tremendous. Although at times his contribution goes unnoticed, there is no denying that Alexandre Song has become one of the EPL's best midfielders.
Abou Diaby
The lanky Frenchman began the season in awful fashion, with lacklustre performances that included a game in which he somehow headed the ball into his own net to give Manchester United a 2-1 win. Many felt the 23-year-old needed to be sold, but then slowly his confidence returned, and suddenly the footballing world had an all new Abou Diaby.
Having previously been dubbed as the next "Vieira," Diaby had a stop-start first few seasons at Arsenal, with injuries hampering his contributions and growth.
But now injury-free, the former Auxerre man is now one of the biggest attacking threats in the Arsenal lineup. The Frenchman has improved almost every aspect of his game and now poses one of the hardest legs to tackle.
Diaby has also risen greatly in confidence and leadership and has now formed an outstanding midfield trio with Cesc Fabregas and Alexandre Song.
The efforts of Denilson should not go unnoticed, either. The Brazilian has contributed well this season but has been hampered injuries on occasion.
