Clint Dempsey Will Play in World Cup, US Soccer Rejoices
After injuring his knee on Jan. 17 against Blackburn at Ewood Park, many people have expected that United States star Clint Dempsey would be out for an extended period of time, and that he would miss the World Cup.
But today, US Soccer has received a major break from their recent injury crisis that includes star casualties Charlie Davies and Oguchi Onyewu, as Dempsey will now be out for only several months due to "moderate damage" to his posterior cruciate knee ligament.
Originally, it was speculated that Dempsey could miss as many as nine months if he had indeed torn his PCL, but thankfully for the United States, he will be back in time for the World Cup.
It has now been speculated that Dempsey will be out until at least March, but he will play again for Fulham this year, and will start for the US in South Africa in June.
Also, Dempsey already stated prior in the day before knowing the results that he will be fit for the US in South Africa no matter what.
Now, the United States will still need to focus on injuries to Davies and Onyewu as the World Cup approaches, as Onyewu appears that he will be able to be fit for the World Cup, but Davies' status is still in the air.
The United States play their first match in the World Cup on June 12 against England, and will play Slovenia on June 18 and Algeria on June 23.
