Buffalo Bills the Staple of Mediocrity
Word has broken that the Buffalo Bills are holding a press conference today at One Bills Drive. The expected news is that Chan Gailey will be announced as the new head coach. The easiest way to sum this up: Disappointing!
When Jauron was fired Wilson was bound and determined to bring a proven winner to Buffalo. Wilson also mentioned that the almighty dollar would not play a factor. He failed to land the big name coach we all had high hopes for. The job in Buffalo obviously does not appeal to most coaches. However, one thing in Buffalo should appeal to candidates. The most loyal fans in the NFL. Yours truly!

How many people can watch their teams lose four Super Bowls in a row, Music City Miracle, and a 10 year playoff drought and still be proud of their team? Not many hence why there are so many bandwagon fans. Where was this Patriot nation when they stunk it up in the early '90s?
The point I am trying to make is the fans of Buffalo deserve better. Nobody just puts on a Bills jersey or hat like some people might with the other big name teams. Yet every Sunday in Buffalo 73,967 fans pile into the Ralph and scream their hearts out no matter what.
What do we have to show for it? Disappointment after disappointment. Why does Buffalo continue to strive for mediocrity? The front office has failed miserably to build any sort of structure over the past decade.
Starting with coaches (five in 10 years) and finishing with players. Jim Kelly during the press conference of Buddy Nix's hiring said "The NFL is about teams of decades, and 2010 will be the beginning of the Bills decade." Is Chan Gailey the guy to turn that around?
I'm sure every reader has heard Gailey's credentials on ESPN at least 10 times by now, so I am not going to crunch numbers throughout this article. Yes, he has been to the playoffs as a head coach. Yes, he did it with mediocre QBs. What did he do at Tech? Failed to beat the rival UGA how many times? Okay, bad example, not the same level of competition. Let's go back to the NFL career of Gailey.
Last year as Kansas City offensive coordinator he lasted through the preseason. The firing was due to the lack of spark the Chiefs' coaching staff saw coming out of the offense. Wow! Sounds similar to when the Bills canned Turk.Ā
The Buffalo D needs work that's a fact. The offense needs rebuilding, and yet we just hired a coach that was fired from a team due to lack of production. Was the bar really that high in Kansas City? They haven't done any more than the Bills in past years.
When the free agency begins the Bills will end up signing maybe three or four average players as they have done in the past. In April, the draft will occur and if the Bills fail to get it done here as well, they are going to be in a serious amount of trouble. So from all the fans of the Buffalo Bills we would like to say, "Thank you Ralph for getting our hopes up once again."
