NBA Star Search (Jan. 19): A Night To Remember for the Warriors
As we said in this column's debut a few days ago, NBA Star Search 's goal is to find the biggest and brightest stars, regardless of how well know or how well marketed they may be.
If they top 30 points, 20 assists, 20 boards, or have a ridiculous game in another fashion, this column makes you well aware of it.
Take a look at who made the grade in Monday night's action:
Gimme That Scoring Title
Rookie point guard Tyreke Evans further distance himself from the rest of his rookie class with a stellar 34-point performance.
The Kings still fell to the Bobcats, 105-102, but Evans shot extremely well, going 13-20 from the floor, while also dishing out seven assists, and grabbing four rebounds.
On Charlotte's side, guard/ forward Stephen Jackson had an impressive defensive night, ripping the ball on defense five times , while also chipping in 11 points and four assists.
It wasn't quite 30 points, but Jonny Flynn's performance needed to be noted. He dropped 29 points on 9-16 shooting, while also dishing out nine assists, and grabbing two steals.
Flynn has been inconsistent, but this is just one glimpse of the level he can play at.
Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette both had 30+ point efforts and were simply on fire and clicking all night long, as Golden State beat Chicago, 114-97.
Ellis was all over the place, hitting 14-39 shots for 36 points, while dishing out eight dimes and bringing in four steals.
Maggette was equally impressive on the offensive end, hitting 11-14 shots, while scoring 32 points, handing out five assists and grabbing six boards.
The Grizzlies' Rudy Gay was the hot hand in Memphis, as he dropped in 31 points, while also helping out on the boards (nine), and even chipping in with three blocked shots.
Dirk Nowitzki broke-out for 37 points (as we predicted), while he also helped out on the glass, per usual, with a solid seven rebounds.
Jason Kidd didn't hit 20 assists, but he came darn close, as he tosses 17 dimes to his teammates, while also scoring 13 points off of 5-7 shooting.
Hittin' The Glass
Chicago Bulls @ Golden State Warriors
Andris Biedrins narrowly missed out on notching 20 rebounds, as he recorded 19 (five offensive), while also scoring nine points. The truly remarkable stat, however, was his whopping eight blocks.
