Bayern-Hoffenheim: Arjen Robben, Philipp Lahm Escape Punishment

Samrin HasibJan 18, 2010

Bayern Munich went to the summit of the Bundesliga, though only for a night, on Friday by beating Hoffenheim 2-0. Martin Demichelis opened the scoring with a good goal and Miro Klose added a second in the dying minutes of the second half to secure the win.

Hoffenheim created very few opportunities and had it not been for Mario Gomez, Bayern might have won by four or five clear goals. Mark Van Bommel was impressive with his passing and is truly looking like a midfielder who knows more about how to play the game beautifully rather than harshly under Louis Van Gaal. He supplied the cross which led to the second goal.

Arjen Robben played like a man possessed throughout the game. His teammates found it difficult to keep up with him and his creativity. He was perhaps the best player on the pitch on the night. Martin Demichelis silenced his critics to a certain extent by scoring the opener. He went on to dedicate his goal to his son.

Miro Klose finally scored in the Bundesliga; his last goal in the league had come against Hanover in March 2009. He has apparently almost reached full fitness. His goal against Hoffenheim means that he has scored against every team in the league.

He will have to score nine more this season, though, in order to achieve double figures at the end of the season. He also dedicated his goal to his twin sons.

Meanwhile, on the training ground, Philipp Lahm decided to tackle the injury-prone Arjen Robben. Robben didn't like the tackle and pushed his teammate to the ground. Thomas Muller and Ivica Olic had to get in between the two to stop the fight. Louis van Gaal's eyes escaped the incident, and thus they both escaped unpunished. (I doubt whether Lahm would want to pay another hefty fine.)

Christian Nerlinger, director of sport at Bayern, was asked whether Bayern would purchase Manuel Neuer. He said that he placed a call to Felix Magath to talk about Alex Baumjohann. He didn't question Magath about Neuer as Magath never gave him the chance to. Magath told him that Neuer is not for sale.
