Are LeBron and The Cavs Peaking to Early?

This debate is double-barrelled to a degree only because Danny Ferry normally makes some type of move during this time of year.  Of course last season being the exception, keeping that team together produced nothing more than heartbreak.

The 2009-2010 version of the Cavaliers run to the ring is a bit different in that this current roster may have maxed out it's potential.  Mo is Mo, Bron is Bron, Shaq is Shaq,....you can do this with argueably every player on this roster.  To get by on talent alone is simply not enough in today's NBA.

At 30-11 Cleveland leads the Eastern Conference by 1 1/2 games second only to the Lakers overall.  The problem is that Cleveland looks nothing near the championship level team it did last year.  Yet home court is once again in their sites.

Is this the best the Cavs can do?  More than likely yes, which is sad but here's why:

-Mike Brown's refusal to reinsert Delonte West into the starting line-up.  Honestly, I don't think he has the call on this one but it's really holding this team back.

-Shaq's offensive dominance is over.  Unfortunately all the great one's retooled their game in some form or fashion throughout their careers.  Can we honestly say this about Shaq's game?

-The Cavs still need a point guard....no offense to Mo Williams but he's not a starting point guard.  There...I said it, sure it will tick a few off but it is what it is.   Plays hard, yet he is a defensive liability.  Shaq is the starting center and the man can't average more than 5 assist a game.   Does not get to the free throw line despite his high percentage.

-LeBron's floor leadership:  What else is really left?  I'll tell you, ownership....I have seen it on many occasions.  You saw a glimpse of it Thursday night when the Cavs were down 12 points with four minutes to play.  His run was one for the ages yet it was only the regular season. 

As a fan of this team I had given up Thursday night, yet towards the end of the game I was not jumping up and down with glee.  I wanted to see what LeBron was going to do next.  I wondered, why is he not taking the free throws?

Why not let him finish the game off?  Well folks, he always finishes the game off.  Yet that night Mike Brown chose to go with percentages rather than his horse.  It was a clear sign that there is a disconnect between Brown and his knowledge of what his players have inside outside of LeBron.

-Is Jawad Williams this year's "Boobie" phenom.  At North Carolina I felt this kid had the best overall game on the team for the next level.  So hopefully not, there is a chance that Williams could provide that Rashad Lewis role that destroyed the Cavs last season.  Williams in a starting role might not be a bad option.  I reference him to Daniel Gibson because his production has been rather inconsistent whether it be due to injury or playing time.  The Cavs can ill afford to receive flash in the pan production.

-Last but certainly not least, the Cavs have no stuff.  You know, stuff like the Princeton offense, Utah's pick and roll attack, the Laker's deadly triangle.  Cleveland has no stuff.  When it's grit time, purist know in any sport to run your stuff.  It's what you know, it's what got you there.  You're always supposed to dance with the girl that brought you. 

Unfortunately for the Cavaliers there is no offensive guru stuff in place to run.  In the end someone is going to pay for it too.

LeBron surely isn't interested in getting fitted for any dresses anytime soon.
