Let's take a look at how this off-season has progressed to this point for the Detroit Tigers. Yes the picture of Verlander makes a statement on the mound. Business 2.0. It seems Mr. David Dombrowski has used a little business 2.0 on the American League Central. With Minnesota Twins locking up Carl Pavano a Tiger killer. The White sox flush with money and buying everything the Tigers were interested in. Seems Mr. DD had the alternatives and the shim sham will work against the Twins and White Sox. Lest we not forget about the Kansas City team either. The battle never ends in this division.
As we all know the Twins struck on August 8th to find a Tiger killer. Acquiring Carl Pavano from the Cleveland Indians and shore up the rotation for a successful stretch run.
Twins offering him arbitration and the ability to shore up there rotation as a Tiger killer again in 2010. Also they attempted to get another Tiger Killer in Jarrod Washburn.
The Chicago White Sox have added Juan Pierre from the Dodgers. The return to health of Jake Peavy and sign coveted reliever/closer J.J. Putz. Quite the improvement. We lost Freddy Dolsi to the White Sox too.
The Kansas City Royals already have a Cy Young pitcher in Greinke but they also added Scott Podsednik. A projected Tiger interest and lead off hitter.
So, where am I going with this? Detroit Tigers Business 2.0. Dave Dombrowski knew he had issues with hunger on the current Tiger roster. Teams lining up to get players that would be Tiger Killers. I will receive a lot of hate for this but bye bye Curtis Granderson. Your a stand up guy but I will not miss your left handed bat against left handed pitching. Most teams you would platoon. Edwin Jackson will be missed. Mr. innings eater and always kept our Tigers in the ball game. The bright spot is the 4 we received in return. Getting younger? Yes. Porcello young? Yes. Porcello hungry? Yes. Do we think adding Max Scherzer, Daniel Schlereth, Phil Coke and Austin Jackson be Hungry to win? YES. Hunger is carefully measured. Young guys put it on the line to get the big contracts of the future. Remember the 2006 Tigers? Were they hungry? YES!
Back to Business 2.0 It seems that Jim Leyland and Dave Dumbrowski knew all the GM's in there division. Let all there weaknesses be known. They were letting Fernando Scare me to death Rodney go. Thank gosh! They let Brandon Lyon go. Thank you! So, the Tigers need Closer and Bull pen help. They announced it to the world. They traded the lead off hitter and a left handed bat. OMG, your sending a tell to your division. Did you notice who the Twins, White Sox and Royals signed? Anyone the rumor mill leaked that we wanted on the Tigers. Dave Dombrowski 2.0. He sold them to other GM's on signing the bigger risks. Tying up salary. You see if you tool up to beat his 2009 Baseball team. Your right on the money. Mr. DD is shrewd. He has you lock up your cash and now he is in action. Signing Jose Valverde at a bargain price for a consistent closer after the market gets cheaper. He has acquired more left handed pitching than the entire American league central combined. Think he has the ability to limit Granderson hurting him visiting Tiger stadium with all that left handed pitching? Think he has the pitchers to trade for a bat? Think other teams need left handed pitching? I think there may be another trade cooking. Just speaks volumes of the belief that the Tiger organization has. Trade from depth. You can always trade a pitcher for a hitter. Thus they rarely draft positional talent.
I am ready for the complaint about signing Valverde. You also gave up a 1st round draft pick at the 19th position. Yes, I did and I gave it up to the Astro's outside the division. Better yet it is in the National league. Looking at the Astro's drafting success. I imagine the pick will drop to the Detroit Tigers anyways. They get 2 supplemental picks for offering arbitration to Rodney and Lyon. They get 2 low end first rounders. With the Tiger Scouting staff that could be very 2 big picks. Plus the Tigers reloaded with the Granderson/Jackson trade.
Now for the bigger question. Is signing Johnny Damon Dave Dombrowski Business 2.0? Only time will tell.
Last plug. For all the haters of the world who hate the Yankee's. Steinbrenner always spends his dollars to get talent and the players the Yankee's desire. Price is no Object for the right player. How about somebody finally taking his hat off and saying thank you to Mr. Michael llitch. The Detroit Tiger owner always spends his money to give us a quality product. Exceeds payroll to keep players and shop for new ones. About time he gets his just recognition. Outstanding owner!
