I personally think this is a great gesture for the MLB to make. This shows that they are willing to help someone in their time of need, especially one that has contributed so much to the MLB in terms of talent.
Haiti is on the same land mass as the Dominican Republic, which is in the Caribbean. Both countries were effected by the earthquake on Jan. 12, with Haiti taking the brunt of the damage. The quake was the worst in the region in more than 200 years, and as many as 50,000 people were feared dead.
It is reported by numerous sources that most medical facilities in Haiti were either severely damaged or completely leveled. The organization "Doctors Without Borders" have began setting up medical tents in the street to help those who were injured.
CBSSports.com also reported that Major League baseball will be airing public service announcements to encourage the fans to help support the cause.
It is truly amazing to me that the Commissioner, team owners, and players are joining together to give the little country of Haiti a ray of hope on their cloudiest day.
