Colorado Avalanche: Possibility of Picking Up a Few Good Men

"Too Little, Too Late: Avalanche Place Svatos On The Block"

After reading this great piece, I began browsing the trade rumors on the internet, and came across some potential trade candidates that would really benefit the Avalanche in their pursuit of the playoffs.

Ilya Kovalchuk is the biggest name on the list right now. The left winger from Atlanta would certainly be a great addition to any team he is on. However, it is reported that he was offered 10 million bucks to stay in Atlanta. Although he is unsigned, it is unlikely the Avs would want to fork out that kind of money.

In Kovalchuck's eight year tenure in Atlanta, he has accumulated 607 points (323 goals, 284 assists)

With rumors of John-Michael Liles on the block as well, it caught my eye that Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer might be up for trade as well. Niedermayer is a well known foe, as he was a part of the 2000-2001 New Jersey Devils team the Avs beat to win the Stanley Cup. Scott is aging, but can still play defense really nicely.

The team could also benefit from bringing back a former Avalanche player, as it is rumored that forward Teemu Selanne is on the block from the Ducks. Teemu played one year in an Avalanche uniform in 2003-2004. Teemu is another oldie but goody, as can still play the game very well.

The last name that really jumped out at me came on a rumor report from last month. Minnesota Wild right wing Petr Sykora could be on the block. Sykora isn't having a very good year this year in Minnesota, but everyone has seen that he can be a tremendous player. With his falters with the Wild, it might make him a super cheap pickup.

Well, that is my suggestions for the Avalanche to replace the few guys on the block. I think that any one of these guys could make a difference on the team and help the Avalanche have post-season success once again.
