Dallas Cowboys vs. Minnesota Vikings: Just How Confident Is Brett Favre?

Ryan CookJan 13, 2010

Four days prior to Brett Favre's first playoff appearance as a Viking, analysts and NFL experts have gathered on numerous television programs and radio shows, to discuss just how confident Brett Favre is heading into Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Well rested, fit and healthy and more determined than ever to take the Vikings to the Super Bowl, Brett had this to say about the Vikings upcoming game.

"Honestly, I see us sitting here next week having this press conference again," Favre said, anticipating a Vikings victory over the Cowboys and an advancement to the NFC Championship Game. "If that doesn't happen, to me it will be a shock. So I just haven't thought about what next year will be like, or what I will be doing next week."

How much confidence should Brett have though when walking down the tunnel and into a crowded and loud Metrodome come Sunday?

Some people have some mixed views.  The word "choke" has been thrown around, along with other notorious words that some fans seem to think should be tattooed to the papers that contain Brett Favre's career stats.

Choke, Interception, Old, Aged.  It doesn't matter.  Favre is going to do what he does best, and that is to go out and play football.

One concern that does arise with the Vikings though, is the offensive line.  Mix and match is the key, as the Cowboys defense is strong, but easy to fool at the best of times.

Switching between the three step drop and the four step drop is Favre's best option.  With the lucky number of 12 next to his name with playoff wins, Favre didn't get to where he is today by doing the same old drop back and throw routine.

Not that I need to point this out, but a good mixture of run and pass is vital also.  With the talent the Cowboys bring to the table, and the fact that DeMarcus Ware is only a metre away, the Vikings need to make sure that Adrian Peterson gets going early and that Favre's arm is warm and loose and ready to hit Percy Harvin on any open route.

One thing Favre has experience with though, is tough teams.  Ranging from opponents such as New York, Seattle, New England, San Francisco and Carolina, Favre's experience goes way beyond Tony Romo's.  With this said though, it is no reassurance for Favre heading into Sunday.

With his years in Green Bay, Favre has built up experience.  However confidence has been missing.  With only one Super Bowl victory with the Packers, Favre has every reason to go into this game with the jitters.  Hell, he had it more than ever in the Green Bay vs Minnesota game in the regular season.

If he counts on one thing though, it will be his teammates.  Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin, and, more importantly, coach Brad Childress will have his back.  Expect to see pep talks on the sidelines, and don't be too worried if Favre doesn't strive in the first couple of drives in the game.  Just give him time to get that old cannon firing, and you'll see why they are the second seed team in the NFC.

Confidence is one thing, but ability is another.  That's one thing Favre has a bundle of.
