Cancer and Sports: Back To Where It Began In Texas at MD Anderson

We are back in Houston and Jeff's tumor was successfully removed on January 7th (day of the BCS Championship Bowl and MD Anderson is part of UT).  Thanks to a friend, he had Longhorn gloves on his hands as soon as he was in recovery - really 1 hand because he had too many tubes in the other.  Modern medicine is truly great and Jeff, following a full chest crack akin to open heart, was watching the BCS Bowl Game awake, aware and feeling very little pain.  It was a miraculous surgery and his recovery, so far, is no less miraculous.  The Longhorns lost but not because we did not wear our Hook Em Horns garb - even Jeff's flowers and new teddy bear were burnt orange. 

Texas on Saturday...painful... when the Iggles were crushed by the Cowgirls was the day Jeff hurt the most...from the meds changing and the Eagles looking like...how Jeff was feeling!  Maybe worse.  This being Houston we had our share of Texan fans who were not any happier than us that the Girls won!  Packed up my Eagle's shirts in embarrassment.

There is more Phillies' news in Houston (is this Philly Central?)...Brett Myers to the Astros yesterday - another Phil to see at 6 month check up time!  Ed Wade, fmr Phillies manager has a taste for warmed over left overs. The home team is now the home team(s) and we will bleed red for the Phillies and now the Astros as well.  We also get to sit in great seats at affordable prices (a bonus) and see Pedro, Brett , Chris Coste and Michael Bourn.  Wow only 5 short of a 9 man team...anyone in Houston want to buy Cole Hamels?

So we have come full circle (almost) and adopted a new city and new teams to root for.  MD Anderson gave us a Texas miracle and we will be returning often.  Go Lions and Longhorns, go Eagles and Texans, go Phillies and Astros, go Flyers and...(no team in Houston) and go Rockets ...stay awake Sixers.  Do sports get any better than this?  The cancer saga continues on a very optimistic note for the next 5 years.  Never doubt the healing power of a player, team or activity!
