Why Arsene Wenger Will Not Buy Squat This Summer

Sai MJan 12, 2010

Dear Gooners,

We all have a summer transfer wish list. I, for one, have discarded mine. Not that I am pessimistic but a realist. One cannot blame Arsene Wenger for being hesitant to buy. There are about 10 players on the treatment table now. Eight of them are expected back on Jan. 17 except Robin van Persie and Johan Djourou.

Arsene Wenger will not buy anyone except for the free Sol Campbell signing, which was expected if you knew anything about the man's famous frugality.

The degree in economics is turning out be a bane after all. Campbell's signing provides the luxury of resting one of center backs. William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen have been rather fit.

Gallas however was seen exhausted or pulled a muscle a couple of times. Scary moments, but they passed. We will have to for Djourou to recover. I will be happy if Silvestre leaves even if we have to pay someone to take him.

Maroune Chamakh will be free agent in summer.

I hope he gets hired. The much needed striker's position for this season will be filled by a loan if anyone is hired at all. Bendtner is fit for match against Bolton Wanderers on Jan. 17. Wenger will mostly gamble the rest of this season on him over a loan deal. The loaned player may take time to adjust and might not work out at all. Bendtner is a known devil. He has been around for a while. Now, we wait for Van Persie to bounce back next summer and partner with Chamakh.

On a side note, the rest of fan's wishes like Dzeko, Gignac, Villa (I laughed out loud when I heard this one) etc. will never be found at Arsenal. By way of digression, I wonder why no one has suggested Torres yet.

Dzeko's asking price is too high and apparently Gignacis not good enough for us. Louis Saha can be a good option if he wasn't demanding such high wages, so old (31 years) and injury prone.

Defensive midfield looks solid. Alex Song is gone for now but will be back. I have my fingers crossed for his successful return. AOC can be quite physical. Denilson is someone I have never liked because of his attitude. He can't do it all by himself.

Abou Diaby and Aaron Ramsey can team up for it; I prefer this over Denilson any day. Sell him at the end of the season to who ever bids highest and get someone who likes to play the Arsenal way.

I prefer not to waste your time on Manuel Almunia. He is a shambles and kills the confidence of even the otherwise invincible looking Verminator. Get a good goalie if we want to win. There are a plenty of keepers around. A good GK can save many blushes. But, Almunia will be around till the end of the season.

Cheers,

Sai M
