WAC Recruiting: Will Boise State and Fresno State Reap Recruits?

Todd KaufmannJan 12, 2010

With the recruiting period just about a month away from coming to an end, there are still recruits who have yet to decide where they will begin their college careers.

The most interesting storyline could be at the University of Southern California. Especially after learning that not only is USC head coach Pete Carroll headed to the Seattle Seahawks but he's taking his linebacker coach, Ken Norton Jr, with him as well.

USC's top two recruits, wide receiver Kyle Prater and running back Dillon Baxter, are already thinking about changing their plans. Prater told Adam Gorney of Scout.com that he had spoken to Trojans' wide receiver coach, John Morton, who doesn't even know if he'd have a job next season.

"He said he doesn't know anything as well," Prater told Gorney . "He doesn't know if his job will be there that securely even if somebody else comes in because they bring in their own staff and depend on who they want."

As for running back Dillon Baxter, he's changed his whole mindset since the news of Carroll's departure. He told Adam Gorney that he's open to listening to anyone at this point.

"I wanted to go live out my whole dream. Now I am wide open. I'll talk to any college. I honestly don't know what to say right now, but I'm wide open."

As for how this news might affect the Western Athletic Conference, there had been rumors floating around that the Trojans could be interested in Boise State head coach Chris Peterson . Another name that was mentioned by ESPN Los Angeles is New Mexico State head coach DeWayne Walker.

Both seem unlikely fits for the USC job, especially with Walker just completing his first year as a head coach for New Mexico State and Chris Peterson recently signing a contract extension .

Although there are recruits trying to make up their minds through the USC turmoil, the recruits who are deciding between Fresno State and Boise State don't have to worry about coaching departures.

The only thing they're concerned with at this point is where they want to play the next four years of their football careers. They have plenty of schools to choose from, but making that choice isn't always as easy as it seems.

So where will those still undecided recruits land?
