NFL Wild Card Playoff Fantasy Football Standings: Results

Until the Arizona Cardinals beat the Green Bay Packers at the end of the fourth wild card playoff game, it looked like the three rematches would remain the same outcome from last week. Both the New York Jets and the Dallas Cowboys beat their opponent for two weeks in a row and the Baltimore Ravens embarrassed the Patriots in New England.

As it stands the Cowboys, Cardinals, Jets, and Ravens are headed into the second round of the playoffs. Below I have some thoughts from the first round of the NFL playoff fantasy football week.

Notes From Wild Card Weekend

Breakout Rookies

Early in the game, Jets running back Thomas Jones was having a hard time finding room to run. This led to the team switching things up and going with rookie Shonn Greene for most of the game and he had a fabulous effort.

For the game, Greene carried the football 21 times for 135 yards and a sparkling 39-yard touchdown run.

This effort helped open things up for rookie Quarterback Mark Sanchez as he completed 12 of 15 pass attempts for 182 yards and a touchdown pass. Sanchez found his Tight End Dustin Keller three times for 99 yards and a great touchdown catch and run.

As nice as that touchdown pass was, Sanchez should have had one before that as he found Braylon Edwards, deep down the field and hit him in the hands, in the end zone. Unfortunately, Edwards has stone hands and let the football drop for an incompletion.

While Edwards' drop was a disappointment, that was the only down note for the Jets as they won the game and move on to the second round.

Is Felix Jones the Cowboys Future Starting Tail Back?

For the second week in a row running back Felix Jones had a great game against the Eagles. This week Jones produced 16 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown. Jones also had a reception for 30 yards.

No doubt this was a dominant performance for Jones as put the game away in the second half with a 73-yard touchdown run.

In the future, it will be interesting to see how the Cowboys use Jones and Marion Barber. Barber failed to run the football after the first quarter as he produced only three carries for four yards rushing in the game.

If Jones continues to out play Barber in the playoffs than Barber will see his fantasy football value drop even harder than it was already slated to do. Look for Jones to be the starting tailback on this team in 2010 if he continues this strong play and stays healthy.
