Who Should Start at Guard Next to Dwayne Wade for The Eastern Conference?

KarlJan 9, 2010

Hey, it's just an exhibition game, so I'm not going to get worked up about it, but obviously the all-star voting is proving once again that the "fans," at least the voters, are ignoramuses.Ā

In the West, there's the McGrady thing; yes, well, that's an embarrassment.Ā  But there's also Iverson set to start at guard in the East.Ā  Except for a couple of die-hard hero-worshippers here at B/R who cling to the idea of A.I.'s potential to return to the elite, most people who follow the game recognize that he's no longer the "answer" and unlikely ever to be the answer again.Ā

But I don't want to argue with the Iverson fans, and it's just the all-star game.Ā  Still, the fact is, there are AT LEAST a dozen Eastern Conference guards whose per game numbers are better than Iverson's, not to mention that they've played more than his eleven games.Ā  And, again, the fact is, however you want to minimize the game, those other players deserve the recognition.Ā

Whom do you think should (not will) start at guard next to Wade for the Eastern Conference?Ā

Some names that might come up are Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings, Mo Williams, and especially Joe Johnson.Ā  But in my view, it's really not even close: Rajon Rondo should get the nod.Ā  He has become a star.Ā  He has been the most productive player on the second winningest team in the NBA.Ā  His overall statistical production is easily better than that of any Eastern Conference guard with the exception of Wade.Ā

Honestly, I'm surprised that the "Celtics nation" folks haven't made more noise about him.Ā  He's not even close to being voted in as a starter, but he should be, and he would be if the fans would just pay a little attention.Ā

It's a good thing people put more thought and research into whom they vote for in the presidential elections, right?Ā  (wink wink)

I'm reminded of the way West coast fashions and East coast fashions make their way into the middle of the country in three or four years, while people on the coasts have already moved on.Ā

Then when someone from one of the coasts goes inland, say, to visit family, he finds himself watching people wearing things that would be laughed at as outdated back East or back West.Ā

It seems like voters for the NBA all-star game are stuck in a similar time-warp, voting for players based on their reputations from several years ago, as if they lived in the Boise of NBA fandom.Ā

The games are being played now, in 2010, and in this world, Rajon Rondo deserves to start in the all-star game.
