Top Five Reasons Beaver Fans Hate the Ducks
I am a fourth generation Duck who was born and raised in Eugene. My first clothes were Duck clothes, my first toys were Duck footballs and basketballs, my first memory is from a Duck football game. Growing up I rarely missed a Duck football or basketball game. I literally had to be too sick to get out of bed, which only happened on a few occasions.
Although I'm a Duck through and through, I never had any disdain for the Beavers growing up. Of course I rooted against them whenever there was a Civil War game in any sport, but other than that I really didn't think much of or about our rivals from Corvallis. I had Beaver friends (still do) and we always participated in friendly ribbing, but never any more than that.
This all changed when my brother chose to finish his education at OSU. Due to his desire to be an engineer and Oregon not offering an engineering program, he chose to enroll with the black and orange...at least academically. My newly found disdain however wasn't directly related to this somewhat of a traitor move. I really found myself hating the Beavers only because his new friends hated the Ducks so vigorously. They cheered against the Ducks no matter who we were playing. They openly talked bad about the Ducks whenever they got the chance...bashing our players, hating our donors (Mr. Knight mostly), dogging our fans and referring to the University of Oregon as one of the worst places to go to school on earth.
After witnessing their hate over and over, I finally started to throw it right back at them. I still have Beaver friends and we really don't talk much about who is a fan of what school (mostly to keep the peace I suppose), but I gotta tell ya, Beaver fans made me hate the Beavers!
Over the years I've pondered the reasons why there's so much animosity coming out of Corvallis. After much contemplation I've come up with the top five real reasons why the Beavers hate the Ducks. Buckle up.
1. Athletics
- Football: UO's 8 Conference Titles vs OSU's 5, UO leads all-time series 57-46-10.
- Basketball: OSU has more victories historically, but in the past decade it's a blow-out in favor of the Ducks.
- Baseball: Beavs hands down (whoopie).
- Track & Field: Oregon is the mecca
- The other sports really don't weigh-in because...well, nobody cares about them. Track and Field only squeaks in because of the unreal history and recent national success.
2. Facilities
- Gil Coliseum vs. Mac Court...lol
- Autzen Stadium vs. Reser Stadium...lol
- Moshofsky Center vs Uhhhh.
- Hayward Field vs. Wheat Field
3. The Ladies
- Cheerleaders: Oregon's cheerleaders are among the hottest in the nation, evidenced by anyone with eyesight, multiple polls on the internet and more polls in major sports mags. OSU's cheerleaders were mistaken as mascots until just the past few years. Even though they're finally decent looking, it's still no competition.
- Student Body: If you live in the Willamette Valley, try out this little test. On the first really warm day of Spring, when the sunshine makes you squint like Mr. Magoo, take a little day trip. Go the Oregon campus at any time of the day and take notes about how many gorgeous ladies you see. Then go to Corvallis at lunch time when everyone is out and see if you count on two hands the number of hot chicks you find. Been to both campuses, partied on both campuses...it's not even close!
4. Cash Money
- P.K. - game, set, match.
5. Attention Deficit Disorder
- The Beavs get no love while the Ducks get 5x the national coverage on television, in magazines and on the radio.
What do the "Top 5 Reasons Beavers Hate The Ducks" all have in common? Oregon is superior to Oregon State where it matters, and the Beavs hate us for it. They also hate the Ducks because we know we're better and to be honest we're not too humble about it. Sorry Beavs, but somebody has to play second fiddle.
