Arkansas Razorbacks Hire Steve Caldwell, Kris Cinkovich, Not David Kelly

The Associated Press is reporting that Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino has hired Steve Caldwell and Kris Cinkovich to coach the defensive line and wide receivers, respectively.

This report puts to rest that UCF WR coach David Kelly will accept a job with the Razorbacks, although there is still rumors out there that Tennessee has been interested in Kelly as an assistant coach.

Arkansassports360.com reported earlier in the day that although reports rumored that Kelly was being courted by the Razorbacks, Petrino didn't even have Kelly on his radar for a coaching position.

**UPDATED** – Tuesday, 8:15 p.m.

UCF WR coach David Kelly has been extended an offer from Arkansas and has reportedly been receiving interest from Tennessee’s coaching staff for the past couple of months, but there has been no update on Kelly confirming both or accepting any offer at another university as of Tuesday night.

Footballscoop.com is reporting that Kelly has not accepted the job yet. Steve Caldwell, an assistant at Tennessee, has reportedly been hired by head coach Bobby Petrino at Arkansas to fill the role of defensive ends coach, according to ESPN.com. Both coaches were discussed together in the Footballscoop report.

Kelly is currently on the road recruiting and has not commented on a contract offer or decision. According to multiple sources, UCF players have also not been informed of any decision made nor heard of any denial from Kelly.

Previous Report: According to reports from Arkansas TV station KARK and Hawgsports.com, UCF wide receivers coach David Kelly could be announced as the new wide receivers coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks as early as Tuesday, although no confirmation has come out of either Orlando or Arkansas.

Kelly, who has served as wide receivers coach for UCF for the past three seasons, has had interest in wanting to become a head coach one day and has worked for numerous Bowl Championship Series level programs including serving as an assistant at Georgia Tech, LSU, and Georgia.

The major impact this could have on UCF is in the area of recruiting, where Kelly has starred for the Knights, especially in the South Florida area. Kelly was heavily involved in bringing in Miami Central quarterback Jeffrey Godfrey, who is on track to enroll at UCF in the spring, and teammates Joshua Reese and Jammal McClain. Kelly has recruited 11 of UCF’s 21 commitments so far.

Kelly has numerous ties for recruiting in the hot-bed area of South Florida, which makes him an attractive piece to any program, especially a team like Arkansas that is trying to tap into the Florida talent pool.

Brandon Helwig of UCFSports.com is reporting that Kelly has been offered the job with the Razorbacks, but has yet to accept it, with an official decision from Kelly to be expected soon.

Here are some of the players that Kelly has recruited over the years for the Knights: Quenton Brown (2010), Jeffrey Godfrey (2010), Joshua Reese (2010), Jammal McClain (2010), Jordan McCray (2010), Justin McCray (2010), Jonathan Davis (2009), Nico Flores (2009), Kemal Ishmael (2009), A.J. Guyton (2007), and Khymest Williams (2007).
