WWE and TNA Suffering Same Problem As Film!

christopher velasquezJan 4, 2010

WWE and TNA much like film are both relying on the same old tired ideas.

Anyone whom has turned the channel to WWE and WWE knows its all of the same. DX is back, Bret Hart is returning, Sting is still wrestling, and most of the wrestling stars of the 80's and 90's are still around. This is the same problem with film go to the theatre and you will be watching old remakes happening over and over again. Dont believe me well DX is back and the NWO might be back in TNA. This just goes to show that few new storylines and characters have been created in the last several years.

Is this bad for buisness?

The answer to this question is both yes and no. It is good for the buisness in the sense that we continue to see our old favorites like HBK and Sting around the upper Pro wrestling cards. Its good in the sense that these older guys can still perform. The bad part is that it does not leave a steady foundation for the future. Just like in film how many old franchises can you ressurect until your audiance demands something new. The product begins to get stale over time and people lose interest. I mean sure Hogan returning and Bret Hart is sure to be a big draw but how long can this last.

Why are we Seeing same storylines so often?

There are many reasons why this is happining but both Pro wrestling and the film Industry are suffering from the main cause. Just like in film the Pro wrestling industry is afraid to take a chance on something new. Go with a old idea is something that everybody remembers for the most part. This is significant because it is a safe bet. The reason we always see the same main event guys is cause its easy to market them. It cost less money and is not as much as a gamble as pushing a new kid like Kingston, Carlito, and everyother mid carder. From a business standpoint bringing up old ideas works to some extent but it hurts the whole product in the long run. The work rate goes down and originality gets thrown up the window.

How can this problem in Pro wrestling be fixed?

Top caliber wrestlers like HHH, Hogan, HBK, Taker etc. need to start putting guys over. We cannot have them consitantly destroying their younger opponents instead of making them look good. These performers need to do what Bret Hart did for both HBK and Steve Austin. WWE creative also needs to stop hiring Hollywood minds because this is not film. Pro wrestling minded people need to be in control. I hope that Hogan can do some good in TNA but for some reason I cant forget how he didnt put over Kidman. Hopefully this will change because the ratings are not as good and just like in the film industry its time to bring back creative and innovative ideas.
