Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is Not in Arsenal's Crosshairs, But Arsene Wenger Will Spend
Happy New Year to you all. The transfer window is finally open and we all know Arsenal need a striker (maybe Wenger doesn't). Arsenal has strikers; in fact, they have them in abundance.
With the most experienced ones injured, Andrei Arshavin (who is almost 5'8") was forced to lead the line. Not that he hasn't done a good job; he has actually impressed.
But if you think of it, what team wins the EPL with a short lone striker? None.
Van Persie is out till April, meaning his job for Arsenal in their push for the title is all but over. So with Van Persie out, Wenger will be forced to spend or the tongues will be wagging and the title will pass him by, for the fifth year running.
Its the new year and the transfer window just opened, nothing serious has been confirmed but a few names have been flying around in the Premier League, more depth read Willie Gannon's review here. For Arsenal, Huntelaar is definitely one of them. Just as the transfer window was about to open Wenger was quoted as saying,
"No I am not in for him, I am surprised he never plays but he is not on our radar.I don't believe that this kind of player can move.
"I am not sure he can move again in this transfer period because he has moved already once this season."
I believe Wenger this time, mainly because Huntelaar is cup-tied and cannot play the Champions League, so a loan move to be made permanent is his best option now.
Next up is the Moroccan striker Wenger unsettled last summer, Marouane Chamakh, just so you know, as we speak Wenger could offer him a contract to sign during the summer on a free. But back to what I was saying. He is also cup-tied and signing him now will be a waste and Wenger knows that too.
"Chamakh is in the Champions League with Bordeaux and at the top of their league, so he will not move now.
"He has four months to go with Bordeaux and they have no interest in selling him."
Hint: Chamakh is moving in July to Arsenal.
He (Wenger) also confirmed the transfer window will be busy for him, we hope for more signings than exits.
Stay tuned to the soccer page of B/R for more in-depth analysis (from me as well as others) during the window for more updates.
Before I go, In Wenger We Trust.
